Unbeatable Buffet Experience at Shangri-La's Supreme Brunch

My days have never been more hectic than the ones I had in the last 4 weeks. The office jobs drove me almost crazy every day even during weekend that I had nearly no time left doing other things including updating my blog. Even for this one, you might not believe me but please do so, because I (sadly) have to admit that I write this on my flight back to Jakarta after the business trip LOL. However, don't take it too seriously. I still enjoy all this business because yes, what doesn't kill you do make you stronger and thereby you have to be grateful.

Well, as it's been quite awhile since the last time I wrote a review, I get kinda lost now from where I should start. I've been to several buffet brunch, lunch, and dinner, but none of them has ever been better than the one I had in Shangri-La's Supreme Brunch. It's the brunch buffet package from Shangri-La hotel, offering a single-price package for having all-you-can-eat dining experience in both Satoo and Shang Palace, their two most favorite buffet restaurants. As some of you might have known, Satoo offers arrays of foods coming from various places all over the world. Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Italian, French, Indonesian; you name it. On the other hand, Shang Palace specializes more on Chinese dishes, serving selections of steamed and fried dimsum, ala carte Chinese cuisines, Chinese porridge, Chinese hotpot, and even Chinese desserts!

Providing those rich choices of foods and beverages, you're supposedly able to guess how huge the venue is. Yes, I think it can accommodate hundreds of people, making it suitable for events, business or casual dining, as well as family gathering. I personally love how they arrange the seats to be around the stations that people can easily spot the cuisines offered. For you who have little kids with you, you needn't worry since they even have dedicated kids zone, where your loved ones can play and have creative activities. Additionally, they have their own kids meal to enjoy, which are specially decorated in the cute appearance that kids fancy.

Located in a 5-star hotel, the service is surely doubtless. The waiter and waitress are very responsive and the chef in-charge at each station is so friendly, trying to deliver the dish as close as possible to your expectation as per requested. At the kids zone, there are even dedicated staff, providing fun services like face painting.

You might then say, "Ok. The place is perfect, the service is awesome, and the foods selection is generous, but how's the most important one, the taste? So here we go to the very first round my friends and I had on the table. Did it the Japanese way, we started our 'feast' with the raw ones. As seen in the picture, they were all fresh seafood came in giant size, making you just can't wait to have the first bite. For me, the lobster came as the best part here and I had to remind myself to stop before I got full of the starter only.

From seafood, we moved on to another meat family, the pork (sorry for those who can't have it)! I was beyond happy finding out they even had dedicated station for pork, serving cold cuts, pork bacon, roasted pork, pork ribs, and many more. It’s just like pork, pork, and more pork; and gladly the taste was also like ‘just gimme more!’. Kinda contradicting to each other, my friends and I enjoyed our pork with Indian cuisines (well FYI for those who just get confused, Indians don’t eat pork). They basically covered almost all of Indian well-known dishes, like various types of curry, prata, samosa, biryani rice, etc. My most favorite was its chicken curry, which flawlessly delivered the balanced combination of spicy and savory flavors, bringing out the strong herbs taste.

More heavy ones came afterwards. We also tried their selections of pasta, whose serving way could be adjusted by the guest according to his preference. So basically you could choose the pasta type, the sauce, the toppings, and the condiments. Not to miss the chance, we ordered their spaghetti, black fettuccine, and ravioli; combined with bolognaise, aglio olio, tomato sauce, and cream sauce respectively. From this one, for me the spotlight was stolen by the aglio olio, serving al-dente spaghetti with luscious garlic flavor, which was perfectly accompanied by super fresh seafood.

Feeling full already? You must not, as we still had the chance to enjoy the arrays of foods from Shang Palace. Saving some spaces for the dessert round, my friends and I decided to go for their dimsum only. Well, they’re delicious enough to fit my palate, but I honestly admitted that I couldn’t say they’re the best dimsum ever. Oh! And besides foods, I also got the handcrafted beverage, freshly mixed by the barista following the guests’ requests. Some of the choices were plum tea, lemongrass tea, lychee tea, and many more.

Okay, enough talking about all the foods, now we arrived at the crème-de-la-crème of every buffet for me. YES! OF COURSE DESSERTS!! What else could go better? Tons of cakes, mousse, candies, chocolates, and ice cream selections; such heaven on earth for me! I was like ‘which one should I give up?’ cause I simply wanted to have all of them in my mouth, but not at the hip LOL. I then surrendered in the end and indeed picking up almost everything. If I really had to choose the top 3, I would pick cheesecake, raspberry tart, and for sure ice cream! Thanks to all these delightful desserts for delivering such a perfect ending to the big big feast.

One simple sentence to summarize my awesome buffet experience at Shangri-La’s supreme brunch, “It’s much more than just worth it!!!”
