When talking about places to go for buffet,
most people might easily name the options when the area is around Central
Jakarta. However, when we’re talking about South Jakarta, especially the
Southern part of South Jakarta, people might take time to think of where to go.
When I had my first step in Sperta at Grand Kemang, I was actually quite
surprised that there’s such place in this area. I had passed by this hotel for
multiple times but I’d never wondered that it actually had a buffet restaurant
with quite many foreign guests. Speaking with the manager, I then understood
that this was actually the reason they invited us to come and dine in the restaurant,
which was to introduce this place to the mass, telling the others that there’s
actually a hidden gem located in Kemang area, which’s mostly visited by
foreigners only and not the local ones.
Sperta is an all-day dining restaurant of Grand Kemang, aside from the other 3 lounges they have; Sparca which specializes in serving various types of beverages, D’lounge which intends to serve casual meet-ups, and Vibar which serves snacks and drinks by the pool to accompany the ones enjoying this facility.
The venue itself is not as huge as most buffet places in the 5-star hotels, however the nice thing is the location, which is next to the pool, allowing the guests to dine while enjoying the view. It actually consists of indoor and outdoor area; and the latter one is where the grill-based dishes are freshly served when ordered. On the other hand, the indoor area serves arrays of Western and Asian dishes, ranging from Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, and many more. Similar as those typically served by any other buffet, you can also find salad bar and cold cuts, poultry cooked with various styles, bread station, refreshment station, and for sure dessert station.
To start the big feast, my friends and I opted for the ones coming from Japanese station like sashimi and sushi, as well as the ones from the salad bar and cold cuts station. I was not really into this starter, but luckily, they were all served by the generous selections of cheese provided here. The manager even said that they indeed intentionally served cheese coming from various countries and thereby, the choices were very specific. As a cheese lover, this was surely heaven for me. One distinctive point that you might not be able to find in any other buffet places was the special Raclette cheese, which was cut and melted right in front of you once being ordered. It was recommended to be served with baked potatoes, but for me, having them with the poultry dishes like chicken and beef were also finger-lickin’ good.
Next to that, there were also numerous types of pasta with ranges of sauces so you might customize it based on your preference. If you fancy the local dishes, you needn’t worry as they do serve your needs. Too bad I was not taking the pictures of all of them L. If you were in the mood for Chinese light-bites, you could go for their dimsum, which were available in steam and fried versions. Perhaps the unique one, which might be rarely found elsewhere, was the Pandan Pao, which tasted good enough.
If in other buffet places desserts were mostly treated as complementary dishes only, Sperta perceived desserts in different way. The manager even shared that the chef really focused on serving high-quality desserts with carefully selected ingredients. You might have been able to notice this looking at the rich assortments of desserts displayed. For me, they could successfully serve different predilections for desserts as the varieties of flavors delivered were huge; ranging from fresh, sour, sweet, bitter, and many more. Crepes, ice cream, eclairs, cakes, muffins, waffles, pancakes, mousse, pie, tart, name it!
Special for the second half of 2016, Sperta has its ‘Brunch it up!’, which is basically Sunday brunch session, available from 12pm to 3pm. By paying a fixed price of IDR 325k ++/pax, you can enjoy the selections of dishes served, accompanied by free flow juice, tea, coffee, and water. If you’re up for alcohol-based beverages, you can pay additional IDR 250k++ for free flow of red/white/sparkling wine and beer. So for you who’re residing nearby Kemang or often going around this place, you now have one more option to spend your Sunday Brunch time.
