The Brand New Baker's Gallery

For me, this week has been very exhausting, yet ended perfectly with so much great news! So what do you think? Yes! I was really in the mood for extraordinary food. And the choice went toooo *drumroll* BAKER’S GALLERY! It is actually the new member of Ryst Group, which also manages Publico, P&B, and Empirica. I have once tried Publico and I was really satisfied with their foods so I definitely had high expectation on Baker’s Gallery.

The design has made me fell in love at the first sight! Everything was just exceptional! Not only the indoor’s one, the outdoor’s decoration was also astonishing. Combining wooden floor and transparent ceiling, as well as being located next to a beautiful garden, the outdoor area has created stunning scenery to be enjoyed by those who sit in this smoking area. On the other hand, mainly themed with white and covered with big glass windows, the indoor area looked classy, elegant, and shimmering.

The service also deserved thumbs up. Although there was a downside at first since some of the waiters were not knowledgeable enough about the dishes they sold, but the friendly service from the supervisor as well as his curiosity about our inputs had been able to create a disappointment-relieving moment.

Tea Smoked Salmon Trout (IDR 90k)

Presentation wise, this dish was indeed the winner of the day. It was a flawless combination of colors served on a plate! Coming to the taste, your mind would indeed be blown away! The dish was exceptional. The salmon was perfectly cooked, as you still could see its pink color and the texture was so moist. It turned to be beyond perfect when you tasted the climax part of the dish, the crispiness of the salmon skin. It’s just so good, I died! Not only that, you would also get additional blessings from the wonderfully cooked poached egg, the chewy mushrooms, the fresh salad, and the savory chips. Together, all of them delivered an ideal blend of ingredients.

Cheese Bar (IDR 45k)

Making decision on what to order for the main course went quite smooth. However, when it came to dessert, I really wish my tummy could afford all of the cakes displayed. I just wanted to try all of them as they looked SUPER DUPER appealing! Finally after making the waiter have to wait for quite some time, I then chose to have this Cheese Bar. My mind suddenly flew back to the time when I visited Publico and found myself so baffled deciding whether I would have Mars Bar or Cheese Bar for my dessert. At that time, I picked Mars Bar and it turned to be one of my most favorite cakes until now. So this time, I would give a try on this Cheese Bar.

Guess what? The same thing happened again! This Cheese Bar was SO SO SO GOOD! The texture was soooo moist. At first, I thought it would probably taste like cheesecake. However, I found out that it was so light and so distinctive from common cheesecake. The flavor was really balanced as it was neither too cheesy, nor too sweet. One word, PERFECTO!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart (IDR 30k)

Another stunning dessert was this chocolate peanut butter tart. Each of its elements had shown doubtless quality. The glazy salted caramel put on top of it definitely made you drool. Going with the combination of chocolate cake and peanut butter, the main flavor of this tart would definitely not go wrong. As the base, the crust was crispy and had perfect sweetness level. So, what else could you wish for?

In short, Baker’s Gallery has given me one of the best dining experience. It has successfully united cozy venue with impressive design, pleasant service, and outstanding dishes into one package. I was indeed a satisfied customer today! :)

Shirokuma Cafe

Konnichiwa! Just by looking at the name of this cafe, you would have known that it had to sell something related to Japanese dishes. Yes, it was right. This cafe was named Shirokuma, which in Japanese meant White Bear. Why White Bear? It was simply because this animal loved icy weather. So the cafe wanted to reflect from its name that it sold something cold and originated from Japan.

Shirokuma cafe actually had become one of the trending topic of the food postings on social media. Looking at those pictures posted by some of my friends who had been there, my curiosity to taste the dishes of this cafe immediately occurred. The reason was basically because I really really loved Matcha! And yeah, finally I was here to try this new ‘happening’ cafe.

The place was quite small and sadly quite hot as it was decorated with big glass windows. As expected, all seats were occupied and I had to put my name on the waiting list. Sadly, I was the sixth person on the list and it seemed like those who had finished their dishes did not make any move to leave the cafe. I had been quite irritated when suddenly the waitress called my name as she had found a table for me. Fortunately, I was not coming with many people so it was easier for them to find a table for me. Yeay! You could see that wide smile on my face now.

SHIRATAMA PARFAIT (IDR 35k)

Without thinking further, I immediately ordered their signature dessert, Shiratama Parfait. It was matcha soft ice cream, combined with cornflakes, mocha, shiratama balls, red beans, and matcha jelly. If you did not want the ice cream flavor to be matcha only, you were free to request it to be changed into twist of vanilla and matcha. Or if you did not like matcha at all, you were also able to change it into vanilla only.

Actually, I had ever tried similar Matcha soft ice cream parfait before. They were Fuku Matcha’s, which I tried in Thailand, and Tsujiri Tea House’s, which I tried in Singapore. Comparing the portion of those two with Shirokuma, this Shiratama Parfait was actually quite small. However, considering that the price was also far cheaper, the small portion was acceptable. Moreover, Shirokuma was quite generous in giving the toppings for this parfait. Taste wise, Shirokuma’s matcha soft ice cream won the runner up position based on my opinion. For me, the best one was still Fuku Matcha’s, but yes, Shirokuma’s tasted better than Tsujiri’s.

MATCHA CAKE PARFAIT (IDR 37k)

Wanting to try something different, my sister ordered their Matcha Cake Parfait. Basically, it was exactly similar to Shiratama Parfait besides this one had extra matcha cake. The Matcha Cake was great as it was so moist and surely, so Matcha (I meant the green tea taste was strong and satisfying)!

TERIMAYO DOG (IDR 42k)

Besides desserts, Shirokuma also served several savoury dishes, including the famous Japanese hotdog, which was usually called as J-dog. This Terimayo Dog was Japanese hot dog with teriyaki sauce, Japanese mayonnaise, and Nori. The taste was satisfying enough and the portion was bigger than my expectation, which was definitely great. The teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise put on top of the delicious sausage made this dish become a great choice for snacking time! What I was curious about now was their black bun, which unfortunately I have not tried :(

There were some other dishes on the menu, which I have not tried since I had had my lunch at the time I visited Shirokuma. As I was still very interested about them, I surely would go back here some time :)

Buttermilk-Waffle Addiction at Crematology Coffee Roasters

Heyhooo! I’ve been super addicted to coffee lately and yeah, here I was, giving a try on another coffee shop. Actually I had wanted to visit Crematology since several months ago, however there were always things (which I forgot what they were as well) making me cancel the plan. I firstly noticed this coffee shop when I had my dinner at Commune, which used to be located right above Crematology (just an additional info, Commune has moved to Lot 8 at SCBD). Since that time, I had been very curious to visit Crematology and just this weekend, I finally made it!

As you could see, compared to other common coffee shops, Crematology was actually far more spacious. The place could occupy quite many consumers. Moreover, I really loved the interior as for me, the designer had successfully made each corner looked different. The seat arrangement had been perfectly set as well, as you were given several choices starting from sofa, long squared table, small squared table, as well as round table.

One most important thing, I thought Crematology understood the consumers so well that they provided so many sockets that could be reached by almost all tables, and their wi-fi speed was highly satisfying. So if you are looking for a coffee shop where you can work while enjoying your coffee, seems like you have found your answer now.

Cheese Bitterballen (IDR 32k)

Coming as a light starter, this one was actually satisfying enough although I had to admit that it was quite overpriced. Basically, it was just a very simple dish as the filling of this bitterballen was merely cheese. However, as I was a cheese lover, for me this Dutch-originated snack could be called as a lovely entrĂ©e.

Buttermilk Waffles with Homemade Mixed Berry Compote & Vanilla Ice Cream (IDR 64k)

If I had to explain this waffle in just one word, I thought I would mention it as EXTRAORDINARY! I really really really love every single element of it. The buttermilk waffle smelled so good that I was really drooling while waiting for the baking process to be finished. Coming to the taste, the smell indeed did not lie as it was superb! The texture was so moist and the sweetness level was ideal. The fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries toppings as well as the additional big scope of vanilla ice cream had turned this waffle into a perfect combination served on a plate. Even now, when I was trying to make this review, I already missed it and just wanted to have more of it!

Hot Hazelnut Latte (IDR 34k)

The coffee itself tasted quite nice and that additional hazelnut syrup made it even better. If you noticed, there was something different with this latte if compared to the latte commonly served in other typical coffee shops. Yes, it used cup instead of glass. Unfortunately, the cup size was quite small. Actually, Crematology provided 2 choices for the size; regular and large. The price difference between these two was only IDR 5k. It’s my mistake that I forgot to ask them how big each size was, before making the order. As I chose the regular one, by the time I finished it, I still felt that I wanted some more :(

Hot Caramel Latte (IDR 34k)

Not really different from the hazelnut one, this caramel latte also tasted great. The difference was basically only at the additional syrup mixed with the coffee. So, it’s just the matter of preference. Moreover, besides hazelnut and caramel, they also provided vanilla syrup.

Besides coffee, Crematology also served various non-coffee beverages. So for you who don’t drink coffee, you needn’t worry as you still have so many great options. Moreover, they also have much more options for the foods, including heavy meals. I think surely there will be next visit and I hope I can realize it real soon! :)
