Tavla Coffee and Space

Serpong never sleeps. Oops sorry, perhaps needs to revise it a bit to Serpong coffee shop never sleeps. Yes, seems like the 'family' hasn't gotten tired to continuously expand, so welcome another new comer, Tavla Coffee!

They mention themselves as Coffee and Space, and in my opinion the phrase literally reflects its actual appearance since they only offer beverages and cozy place to spend your lazy chilling time. If I have to describe the design in a single word, it'll be minimalist. Plain walls, gloomy -colored furniture; nice one for relaxing the eyes and mind.

What arrived on the table today was the trio of Chocolate (IDR 34k), Latte (IDR 28k), and Cappuccino (IDR 28k). It's like having the lightest to the strongest drink in stages starting from the sweet and milky to the slightly bitter one. The first wasn't my type of Hot Chocolate as it's too milky while my preference was the bold one with strong kick of dark chocolate flavor.

Chocolate (IDR 34k)
Latte (IDR 28k)
Cappuccino (IDR 28k)
Shifting to the caffeine series, I started with Latte which's also kinda too light for my taste bud. Well, the barista actually had initially mentioned that their beans were indeed medium-roast one so it would be pretty light. Hence, rather than blaming, it's better to move on to the one with stronger body, Cappuccino, the barista's favorite cup. Again and again, the barista made me fell in love with the flawless latte art gorgeously handcrafted by him, exactly the same thing happened with the prior two. Despite that I wished it to have slightly bolder coffee touch, the Cappuccino was a decent cup and might suit those who're not into dark-roasted coffee.

If you're trying to find a place for chilling while sipping coffee but you're in demand for light-roasted one, Tavla couldn't suit you better :)

Kopineto, A Petite Cozy Space for Your Caffeine Sip

Strolling around Kuningan area for this Sunday, Kopineto came out as one of the coffee shops on the list. A petite one as expected, looking at the location which was at Karet Pedurenan. Finding it through Instagram, actually I initially didn't know the complete address so I simply went to Karet Pedurenan then go through the road trying to figure out where it was exactly resided. Being well prepared, my friends and I came there using online pickup service so we wouldn't find trouble in searching for parking space knowing the road was so narrow and having high traffic as usual. We then found out that it was next to Dream Salon and Spa so for now, you could use this salon as the destination spot on your Google Map to find the way here.

Regardless the small size, it could accommodate approximately 20 to 30 people I guessed since the building was a 3-storey one. It was surprisingly comfy as well having one communal table at each floor and long tables by the window and the wall at the second floor.

The design was quite simple with grey-ish cement walls, which probably a decade ago would be considered as unfinished building but nowadays taken as hype theme. The wooden furniture added lighter color into the decoration making it looked more alive. There were also quotes printed on canvas, which were actually sold yet simultaneously used to enliven the moody color tone of the coffee shop itself.

I wasn't sure if they're still on soft-opening or they indeed wanted to maintain the concept this way, but at my visit, they mainly offered coffee. The only available coffee pairing was the Pandan Chiffon Cake displayed beside the cashier.

Simply said, I went for everything they had on the menu. LOL, yes literally everything, since everything here meant Pandan cake and coffee only. Not putting high expectation since the beginning, the Pandan Cake (IDR 15k) wasn't bad, but not like the 'best of the best' cake as well. I'd call it light-bites due to its moist texture, making it a right choice to go for especially if you're not that much into heavy cakes.

Pandan Chiffon Cake (IDR 15k)
Going to the main part, the coffee, the current options were either black or white. Picking the white one, I opted for Hot Cappuccino (IDR 30k), which appearance wise turned out to be like Latte. The taste was okay, being neither sour nor bitter, yet bluntly speaking still not my most favorite cup.

Final sayings, all the best for this 'new-born' coffee shop. Perhaps more choices of foods and beverages would be a lovely idea :)

Nebula, where Smoothie Bowls Get Married to Coffee

Still couldn't move on from holiday mood, to be exact Bali ambiance, I was still in high demand of healthy kind of breakie, including smoothie bowl! Hearing that Nebula just set up its new outlet in Mega Kuningan, I didn't want to miss the chance to give it a try. Coincidentally, I was indeed having a lunch appointment around Kuningan area this Sunday so there I was, visiting Nebula!

Asking the barista, I figured out that this one was the same with Bali's Nebula as well as the one previously available at Ruci's Joint. I'd never dined in the branch in Bali, yet I'd ever been to the one in Ruci's. Arriving there, I was quite astonished looking at the mini venue, and when I said mini here, it's literally really small, having only 1 sharing table for approximately 5 people at max. Being able to read that I was surprised, the barista then mentioned that they're still in soft-opening period and would only be completely open by May. At that time, they would have more selections of dishes and the venue would be expanded.

Knowing that the whole cafe area's not yet completed, I wouldn't talk much about the design as for me, nothing in particular to highlight at this point of time as well. So without further due, let's immediately go to what's available on my dining table for this Sunday brunch.

Having tried Nebula in Ruci's, I've known that their signature menu were smoothie bowl and coffee. Yes, exactly like typical vegan or organic cafes in Bali :). During the soft opening, only these two kinds of menu were available and even not all the smoothie bowls listed on the menu were ready to be ordered.

Following the barista's recommendation, I opted for their most favorite, Pittaya Bowl (IDR 65k). It's similar to the general Pittaya Bowl you might have had in any other restaurants in terms of the components served inside the bowl. It was a healthy yet luscious one, serving freshly blended dragon fruits, topped with slices of strawberries and bananas, shredded coconut, goji berry, and granola. I loved the naturally refreshing taste coming from each elements, and actually what made me turned happier was because I felt less guilty eating this kind of breakie, knowing that it contained less fatty ingredients. The sweet taste was also not artificial so there's no such thing like 'a moment on your lips, forever on your hips'.

Hot Cappuccino (IDR 30k)

Using the beans with low-to-medium body level, the coffee taste in the cappuccino wasn't that bold, but still at pretty acceptable level for my palate. If you're more into stronger one, my suggestion was to go for double ristretto. The nice point to highlight was the clean after taste, which was always something important for me when talking about coffee. If I might have one request on this cup, I guessed it would be 'serving the coffee in a glass cup instead of paper one, please'.

Iced Seminyak Caramel (IDR 40k)

Feeling that the weather was stiflingly hot, my friend decided to go for the cold version, the iced flavored latte and the choice fell on caramel, one of the two flavors provided besides hazelnut. Simply said, I'd call it Iced Caramel Latte. As I've called out in prior that the coffee was medium-bodied, thus when it came in iced version and added with extra syrup, the coffee flavor got kind of overpowered and slightly too sweet. Hence if later on you opted for their iced coffee, I would suggest you to request for extra espresso shot.

Having tried only limited menu of Nebula, I'm really looking forward to coming back on the grand opening, to figure out the other ones. I hear that they may serve many savory dishes as well, just like the outlet in Bali. See you later, Nebula!

El Mono Bali, where Monkeys are The Most Expressive

Another 'new kid' in Canggu! Standing out pretty different to the existing one, this new coffee shop didn't talk about vegan or healthy foods that much though they did serve those dishes. Unlike those common vegan cafes, which mostly brought simple design, this coffee shop was uniquely decorated with yellow, white, and grey colors mix. The size was also much sizable compared to general cafes in Canggu. The pillows with monkey faces in various expressions cutely covered the cafe, kicking the spirit of my sister and I for some snaps despite we're almost 'melted' by the sunlight ;). As it became my top of mind about El Mono, that's also the reason why I picked it as my title.

The venue's like a semi-open-air space as it had the ceiling but no standing walls around. It was actually merged with a place for gymnastics course for kids so I kinda enjoyed the view of little girls practicing there while sipping from my caffeine cup.

As I had my Canggu cafe rally on that day, and the cafe I visited prior to El Mono was actually quite close, so my sister and I decided to walk. I believed you all know and could clearly imagine the feeling if I mentioned Bali's hot sunny day. So guess what's the first thing we're craving for when we reached El Mono's venue? You might start guessing, the drink that could become perfect thirst-relief. If you just mentioned Coconut Water, you couldn't go more correct. Spotting it listed on the menu, my sister and I definitely didn't think twice and immediately opted for it. Flawless refreshment, especially being added with additional happiness from the lime juice.

Becoming the forth stop in Canggu, I didn't have any space anymore in the tummy to go for something heavy. The Classic Cheesecake thereby came up as the choice after having the dilemma if we should go for it or for the waffle alternatively. It's pretty similar to Japanese cotton cheesecake, only that texture wise it's not that light. Nothing specific to call out from the taste than it's not bad at all if you're looking for desserts.

Classic Cheesecake
What's going to coffee shop without having coffee? Yeah, the mandatory cup to go, for which my sister and I opted for Hot Cappuccino. Luckily, as they weren't vegan dishes specialist, they did serve the coffee with normal milk. Yep, if you went to Canggu, some coffee shops only served non-dairy milk like almond milk, cashew milk, or coconut milk; exactly what my sister and I experienced with the coffee shop we went prior to El Mono. Serving medium-bodied coffee with low acidity, this cup was a relief to me as it rightly suited my coffee liking. Perhaps stronger aroma would make it turn even better :)

Hot Cappuccino
Being still a very new coffee shop in Canggu and at the same time serving Instagenic spots, I believe El Mono does tickle your curiosity to pay a visit there.
