Canabeans Alam Sutera

Hello to this newest comer in Alam Sutera! Occupying the front space of Brooklyn apartment, you would definitely notice this coffee shop as you went out of the Alam Sutera toll gate. A very strategic spot chosen there as it’s highly visible and would certainly catch the attention of people passing-by.

From the outer appearance, Canabeans looked like a gigantic coffee shop with casual concept. It somehow made my mind recalling the holiday time in Sydney, when I simply walked throughout the town and stopped at random coffee shop by the road. Perhaps the outdoor seating was the one giving this impression, as it’s located next to the huge open-space right at the center of Brooklyn apartment. Sitting in this particular corner, you would feel like enjoying the scenery of the traffic regardless you’re actually still within the area of the building. Besides, the green plants and huge pond, which were just several meters away, took the role as the flawless supplements for the eyes - awesome example for what so called Namaste!

You might also see people stopped-by, placing their order through the window at the left-hand side of the cafe; a great idea to let people being more time-efficient and to avoid the dining area from being overly crowded. Alternatively, those who just stopped by, spending few minutes for quick caffeine sip, could sit there and enjoyed their drinks.

Going inside, the theme was actually still consistent, talking about everything natural. It’s like wood here and there, giving the impeccable relaxation treatment for the sight. My crush was on the end corner at the right side of the entrance, the hook point with big table complemented by seats with cushion; feeling much like sitting lazily on the couch in my own living room. In demand for more privacy? You did deserve it here as they provided a closed-room with 10-15 people capacity.

Croque Monsieur with Egg (IDR 55k)

Skimming throughout the menu, I could spot pasta, rice bowls, noodles, and AHA! At the moment my eyes bumped into the breakfast selections, my mind was like automatically turning on its deep-search button. Not that much choices, but adequate enough to make me kind of falling into dilemma. Some of you who had followed my writings for several times, might have been able to guess my pick. Yep, egg-based one with abundant cheese as the ingredient, and I guessed Croque Monsieur did serve this liking best, so I opted for it.

The ‘chefs’ or at least those who loved their own hand-crafted meals certainly knew ‘what this dish was’. It might look fancy and highly appealing, but the components were actually pretty simple. Nevertheless, if the hands were talented in blending the flavors, it could turn out scrumptious and in contrary if they’re not, the nightmare was also unavoidable.

Canabeans’ one came in quite unique presentation, delivered in tall stacks of toasts rather than single-layered or short stacks ones. It’s however looking more tempting (well, at least my eyes did say so), giving that ‘bigger-size’ impression. The grilled bacon, cheddar cheese, and melted mozzarella flawlessly blended into the yummy bechamel sauce. I did love the generous stuffings put there as they balanced the toast well, cause honestly the toast were slightly too thick for me, despite that it made the whole dish looked more gorgeous in presentation and the buttery taste was coddling. One thing that might be improved was the sunny side up, which would absolutely went much better with the yolk being runny. Fortunately the white part, the one that might be least called out, was surprisingly curing with its super smooth texture.

Salted Caramel Fudge (IDR 38k)

I felt like having deja vu when spotting this cake for the first time, displayed in the showcase. It seemed that I’d ever had it somewhere before, but I couldn’t recall when and where. I didn’t ask, but I guessed yes it’s not coming from the house’s kitchen, but externally sourced.

As its name told, the cake was basically dark choco sponge based, with salted caramel cream in between the layers. Perhaps it’s due to being stored quite too long, the cake itself was pretty dry, not moist as my initial expectation. Fortunately the luscious and bold salted caramel saved the cake, pampering the taste bud with its not overly sweet flavor. If only I could have it fresh, I thought it would be muuuchhh better.

Hot Piccolo (IDR 30k)

Since Canabeans did call itself as coffee specialist, it would be impossible not giving a try. The trial did end up well as the cup served faultlessly matched my preference, aromatic smell as the starter attraction, strong coffee flavor as the main indulgence, and clean after taste as the final touch; such a complete set of perfection for my coffee liking.

Getting sold to their coffee, I’m calling all the coffee lovers out there to get the place on your checklist especially if you do have your radar ‘beeping’ around Alam Sutera or Serpong area.

Origin Bakery, A Slice of Happiness and A Cup of Gaiety

Oh wow, another new baby??!? Surprise surprise, the answer is a YES!! This time I couldn’t be more anxious to pay a visit, since this newly opened cafe is a baking specialist as well. Yeaaayyy, my heaven is awaiting for me to come!

This white-dominated space is a tiny bakery which offers mainly bread, pastry, cakes, and cookies. It does expand the portfolio to cover brunch menu, though the selections aren’t that abundant. However, I would say it quite a decent range, especially considering the space is pretty petite, serving only 2 tables for a group of 4 and a long table with individual seats. Yes, the spot is as simple as that, since I guess the customers are indeed more to those who do takeaway, particularly the ones buying cakes and bread.

Being very minimalist, funnily yet true it even becomes the point that steals my attention. It delivers the feeling of clean and fresh, a nice place for chilling and escaping for awhile from all the crowd.

Not only being a seller of the products, the house does offer baking courses and cooking classes to serve your passion to make these pieces of heaven yourself. Sounds so interesting and I guess I will try to find time joining it, fulfilling my long-sleeping passion.

Chocolate Opera Cake (IDR 32k)

OK, put aside my story and let’s go having some slices of happiness on the table! The first piece of indulgence was for the chocolate lover. This cake has the signature characteristic of opera cake, yet for me it does give something beyond the common one. I’m always in love with the rich blend of texture within this cake, having spongy layer as well as creamy and thick one.

It’s the perfect choice for those who are not that addictive to sweets, since the flavor does feature coffee, meaning the slightly bitter taste would balance out the sweetness from the chocolate. My favorite was the dark choco and almond glaze on top, which I thought wasn’t always available in other opera, but kind of the best part of this slice besides the coffee cream!

Cheese Cake (IDR 35k)

The cake that I’ve never gotten bored of. Yeah you needn’t call out that I apparently never get bored of cakes, but indeed cheesecake’s like my all-time favorite, which I perhaps can get all day long. Looking at the gigantic slices in the showcase, I took a blink to call the name out as my order. I even told the attendant to give me the biggest slice, making him ended up laughing LOL. Getting my sinful indulgence on the table, I was blown away by this super dense cheesecake! Exactly suited my preference, coming with the crispy crumble at the bottom. Seriously, this was like one of the best deal I’ve made this weekend, with only IDR 35k! I could even tell that if you’re not cake holic like me, you’d better share, but never blame me if you got addicted ;)

Hot Cappuccino (IDR 32k)

Hot Piccolo

Gimme an awesome slice of cake, then made it come with a cup of delightful coffee, then you would make me your forever loyal customer. I thought Origin Bakery couldn’t be more successful in bringing it to reality. Spotting that they’re using the beans from Morph when I made my order, I was hyper-excited to sip my order. I firstly enjoyed these beans at Coarse and Fine, and it has become one of my favorite afterwards. Knowing it’s pretty strong, I opted for the Hot Cap while my friend picked the Piccolo. It turned out as satisfying as my expectation; a bold and aromatic one with smooth finishing. Oh dear, thanks for making my day!

Not being too far from my area, I’ve marked Origin Bakery as my place-to-routinely-visit. With the booming trend of coffee shops lately, I would rarely find myself going to the same coffee shop for multiple times, yet this one surely deserved the different treatment, able to offer me my complete package of gaiety!

Dailycious, “To Eat is Human, To Eat Well is Divine”

“To eat is human, to eat well is divine”. Carrying that tagline, the place definitely aimed to serve something amusing to pamper all the palates of the guests. It didn’t only want to serve something fulfilling for the tummy, but meals that gave ultimate satisfaction.

Not stopping there, it did want to let he guests enjoying great foods with heart-warming ambiance. The theme carried was quite different between the first and the second level. The first was most cheerful, bringing more colorful tone though the chosen ones were more to the soft side like light turquoise and baby pink. I was deeply in love with the interior that all I had in mind was I wanted to have my bedroom being decorated this way!

Not only targeting the youngsters, they did aim for family, proven by the playing area provided at the front corner. Those with small kids could enjoy their time while let their kids play. More than that, I guessed the photo-holic could get themselves completely satisfied with tons of instagenic snaps here as they would simply want one more snap at each corner.

While the first floor was more lively, the upper level presented the currently happening simple and monochromatic design with mainly grey color, using cement tiles and walls, which were then colored by the green plants - either hanging on the ceiling or standing on the floor. This kind of ambiance was always delighting for me as it gave the homey feeling and nothing’s too much for your eyes to take. As the place was quite sizable and they did provide communal table, it could be utilized as co-working as well as meeting space. To note, you could have better privacy as well since some of the corners were separated by glass walls. Furthermore, an outdoor space facing the front side of the cafe was also there, giving another options of ambiance to enjoy.

When you stayed around Tangerang, the place was accessible as it’s located at the center of the area, being close to both who had the radar around both BSD and Alam Sutera. Having said so, I believed this approximately one-month old cafe would create the big hype here!

Right at the time I took my first step into the venue, I was given a wide smile and directed to some tables as the options for my seat. I picked the one next to the window, as usual to get the best slot for my flatlay pictures giggling. Besides, my friend could also get his best spot to look after his son who was playing at the kids spot, located just next to our table.

Looking at the menu, the ones behind the kitchen apparently tried to be innovative, combining several ingredients, which were not commonly served together, in many of their dishes. Honestly speaking I was at first pretty disappointed, finding that most foods I wanna tried weren’t available. Yeah, I called out like 3 menu and they were all not there. The waitress tried to explain that they indeed wanted to modify their menu, removing some of the current dishes. Though I finally ended up ordering other meals, I was still kind of annoyed and I thought it would be better if they could quickly replace the menu to avoid same case happened to other customers.

Rawon Buntut (IDR 65k)

Since my friend was told that their traditional Indonesian dishes were the favorites, so he opted for the dishes coming from this particular group. Starting with this Rawon, the soup with kluwak as the main component. Indonesians were definitely familiar with this dish and might be the big fan of it.

The signature characteristic of Dailycious was it featured oxtail as the substitute to beef cuts. Overall, my friend who had it mentioned that the broth was pretty decent and the oxtail was juicy enough. It’s a nice one though he couldn’t say it’s the best kind of rawon. If you’re the fan of fried snacks, you would be happier as you got that corn fritter to enjoy with your main dish. Not to forget the best friends of rawon, yeah for sure boiled salted egg and bean sprouts, so you would get your more-than-complete set of rawon!

Nasi Gulai Chicken Bakar Kemangi (IDR 40k)

Compared to the first, this was more peculiar and flavorful at the same time, serving tender grilled chicken accompanied by Indonesian’s favorite carbo, rice! Great news, the rice gave extra delicacy as it’s not the plain one, but the version grilled with basil, making it became more aromatic and tastier. It was quite a good deal, sold at this price level and came with quite big size.

Mie Tektek (IDR 30k)
Who said you could only enjoy street foods by the street? Now I thought the trend had spread out anywhere that restaurants started serving these types of dishes as well. Yeah in the end people seemed to enjoy going back to the basics <3. This dish could be one of the best representatives, serving something I ate quite often during my college times. Besides very affordable, I did enjoy the taste a lot, like simple happiness which you could get with a single door-open.

It was nothing more than egg-noodles, fried with eggs, shredded chicken, and various veggies; but the taste was absolutely indulging! The abundant fried shallots on top was heaven for me, and despite that this dish might have simplest ingredients compared to the first two, I enjoyed it best.
Bubur Ketan Saus Mangga (IDR 25k)

The sweets finally came on the stage, as if they didn’t wanna lose to the savory ones. Following the latest trend, it did featured mango in the bowl, as the additional toppings to the normal black sticky rice porridge. Speaking bluntly, I still preferred the normal one, with black sticky rice, mung beans, and coconut milk only. For my palate, the diced mangoes were kind of weird to be combined here, and it simply demanded the mainstream version.  Yep, when it came to invention, it was always back to preference.

Colenak (IDR 35k)

When you had your radar based on West Java, or you did enjoy their foods quite too much, you certainly were aware of this traditional dessert. Made of fermented cassava, it was normally served with liquid coconut sugar or brown cane sugar and shredded coconut.

Nonetheless, Dailycious brought out the brand new version, with chocolate, caramel, and crumbles. Nothing’s wrong with the new kind of toppings and my palate well accepted them; only that it wished to get the fermented cassava to be served in more moist texture. Perhaps cooked it slightly longer? ;)

Hot/Iced Kopi Tarik (IDR 17k)

To end all the meals, my friends and I this time had one voice, Kopi Tarik, which was made of Aceh coffee beans. You could guess how strong these cups of caffeine were, for sure. If you loved acidic type of coffee, this would suit you best, but my coffee liking wasn’t that much into it. Fortunately the sourness was balanced by the sweetness from the condensed milk, yet I recommended iced version than the hot one as it might ended up being overly sweet.

In a nutshell, I was hitched by this place at my premiere visit and I could guarantee I would be going back for their other meals. What I loved the most was its ambiance that could let my brain had its best relaxation treatment.
