From Brilliant Talents to Prosperous Tummy

Some of you might wonder what Local Fest actually is. However, I believe definitely not few of you have been aware or even have known this very well! For you who have not known about Local Fest, it is a festival that tries to find and expose the local potentials possessed by the Indonesians, especially the youngsters. Not only the talent in art, this unique event also brings out the talents in fashion, culinary, music, and many more. You can be surprised finding that actually there are lots of young Indonesians who have been very successful with their own businesses they build from scratch.

I have always been interested to join this type of event. I have been to many similar events and I must admit that I really really enjoy the time spent there. Not only able to enjoy great foods or buy great fashion items, I am also able to be inspired by those young motivated people behind the businesses.

Talking about the foods served there, I have always experienced my ‘tummy-prosperity moment’ every time I visit such event. I can find so many great foods, especially snacks and desserts, which are usually sold online and only able to be ordered with certain minimum order quantity. However, here I can buy anything in single portion so I can try so many foods I can only wish to try before.

So now, let’s check out those I’ve ever tried!

Beef Quesadilla

Honestly, I was quite disappointed with the real dish as I expected it to look like the picture shown at the booth, in which the filling looked so rich. The actual Beef Quesadilla was much thinner compared to the picture as the beef and the mozzarella were given in quite stingy amount :( . Taste wise, I thought it was just so-so. If only the actual filling were similar to the picture, I thought this dish would be much much better.

Cherry Crumble (IDR 38k)
By Ladies Who Bake – Owned by Rianti Cartwright

I have been very curious to try the fruit crumble made by the well-known Rianti Cartwright. I have heard from quite many people that they taste so amazing that you will often find them sold out already if you visit their cafe in the afternoon. That's why, when I knew that this crumbles were available in Local Fest, I was beyond happy. This opportunity should never be missed. It was quite a dilemma when I had to choose between the Apple Crumble and the Cherry Crumble. Both of them looked so tempting, but I knew I had to save some space in my tummy for other appealing dishes I wanted to try. Finally I decided to pick the Cherry Crumble as the booth keeper said that it was sourer, while the Apple one was sweeter.

First spoon and OMG, it's SO SO SO GOOD, I DIED! It was indeed a perfect balance between the slightly sour taste from the cherry and the sweet taste from the pie crust. Additionally, the cherry was so refreshing and the pie crust had incredible texture. The crumble put on top of this cake also completed it, making me have to admit that this was indeed a slice of perfection.

Actually, you were also given a small cup of slightly sweet cream (based on the taste I guessed it's whipped cream) to be enjoyed together with the cake. However, I still preferred to enjoy the Cherry Crumble without the cream :)

Original Egg Waffle with Chocolate & Cheese (IDR 25k)

If you are an active Instagram user, who follows some Foodies' accounts, you definitely have seen this snack for quite many times on your timeline lately. Some people said that this egg waffle was actually originated from Hong Kong. Actually I have been very familiar with this snack as I used to stay in Surabaya and you could easily find this snack everywhere with various brands.

Looking at the case, you probably have correctly guessed that I did have very high expectation on this egg waffle as I've tried the best ones in Surabaya. Since I wanted to try both their dark chocolate and cheese topping, thus I ordered the original dough so it would not be too chocolatey.

For me, the taste of the egg waffle itself was just okay, but I did not find something exceptional in it. The dark chocolate topping tasted quite strong and I loved it, but unfortunately, it was not evenly spread throughout the whole waffle. For the cheese topping, I was quite upset as I could barely tasted it. My high expectation might be blamed as the reasons behind this :p . But I really wished Egg Eats could give more generous portion for its toppings so this snack could taste better. Otherwise, the taste would be somehow similar to enjoying plain egg waffle.

Salted Caramel Éclair (IDR 35k)
By Byod Patisserie – Owned by Chef Odie Djamil

This eclair was indeed 'judge-the-taste-by-the-appearance' type. Not only good-looking, the taste was also doubtless! The dough taste was perfectly chewy and moist. The cream filling was generously given and the taste was so rich. The sweetness level was ideal and the strong salted caramel taste could be enjoyed by your taste bud. The additional toppings put on top of the eclair were surely plus points! Though I thought the eclair was kinda pricey, I did enjoy it uber much!

Green Tea Éclair (IDR 35k)
By Byod Patisserie – Owned by Chef Odie Djamil
The only differences of this green tea eclair with the salted caramel one were the filling and the topping. The taste was similarly incredible! So, which one to choose only depended on your preference :)

Sandwich Waffle Ice Cream with Melted Milk-Chocolate Toblerone (IDR 40k)
By Spiky Smooth

Some of you might know that I've ever reviewed this particular dessert before. So if you've ever read about it, you might jump to the next review or you might also share my previous review on this to others. I would just repeat it to remind you just in case you've forgotten what I wrote about this dessert previously.

This waffle ice cream was definitely different from others. Instead of being served on a plate, you have it put into an open-top paper box. The waffle was served warm as it was baked right after you make the order. The melted toblerone topping was also just made at the same time. So if you wonder how the taste was, it was surely heaven for me because it perfectly combined the warm and moist giant waffle, the cold ice cream, and the sweet melted Toblerone on top of it. Additionally, you have several choices of exceptional flavors for the ice cream, such as Cream Cheese, Peanut Butter, Marie, and others. Unfortunately, I don't think this sandwich waffle ice cream is available at Spiky Smooth's permanent stall all time.

Coconut Ice Cream with 4 Toppings
By Kelasi Kelapa Isi

For you who miss the traditional ice cream flavor, this one is definitely for you! The refreshing taste from this coconut ice cream, which you might rarely find lately, was indeed perfect for our hot beloved capital city. Added with various choices of toppings, this dessert could absolutely give you the ultimate satisfaction.

Royale (Snickers) Milkshake (IDR 40k)

Not only foods, you could also find various choices of beverages here. One that captured my interest the most was Jerry's 1987 Milkshake. Providing various choices of unique flavors, this milkshake made you unable to resist trying it. As you might be confused (read: galau) choosing which flavor to order, the seller came with the perfect answer for you by offering free tester. After tasting some of the flavors (and still galau), I finally chose to order this Royale Milkshake, which basically used Snickers as its main ingredient. As this ice cream was mixed with vanilla ice cream, even before I tried it, I had known that the taste must be wonderful. And yeah, I then proved that I was not wrong at all. The taste was BEYOND PERFECT! I really really loved it, especially because I was also a Snickers fanatic! You do not need to worry as the sweetness level was so balanced as well. And I highly recommend you, please do not ruin your excitement by counting the calories of this indulgence.

So for you who have never been to Local Fest, what are you waiting for? Go and give it a try and be ready to be drooling! For you who have been to this event, there's nothing wrong with coming again and experiencing another tummy prosperity moment!

Thanks for reading! :)

A Fat Sip from the Fat Glass at the Fat Straw

This newly opened bubble tea store has successfully captured my interest when I firstly looked at the picture of its fatty cute cup. I’ve never seen any similar one before in all bubble tea stores I’ve ever visited. Trying to find out more information about it, I then knew that it was actually not really new as it has been established since last year in Kelapa Gading. The new one opened in Gandaria City is the branch of it.

Using bee theme as the design, the venue looked very engaging. You could see bee hive patterns at almost every corner of the place. It was quite spacious, allowing the guests to enjoy both their beverages and light meals right at the place instead of taking them away, as what the guests of other bubble tea shops usually did.

Popcorn Chicken (IDR 32k)

Before going to the main actor, which was the bubble tea, I decided to have some light meals first. My choice went to this Popcorn Chicken, the savoury dish served there besides French Fries. Served in a large paper cup, the presentation was actually quite simple, yet appealing enough to make you drool. Yeah, deep-fried snacks indeed never failed to satisfy my taste-bud. As shown through the name, the chicken truly came in popcorn shape. I liked the crispy texture and the savoury taste of it. The portion was generous enough as well. However, I thought it might be better if they used thinner coating for the chicken (and thicker cut for the chicken hopefully :p)

Black Magic Milk Tea – Large (IDR 25k)
with Additional Honey Boba and Taro Pudding (IDR 3k +IDR 3k)

Now you could see this fatty cute cup I told you before :). For my first trial, I desired to order milk tea. However, I was confused about which flavor to order. I then asked the waitress which was actually their best seller, and here it came, the Black Magic Milk tea. The waitress said that this one had stronger tea flavor and used brown sugar. For size, I doubtlessly picked the large one, simply because the cup was too cute to resist :p. For ice and sugar level, actually you would not be asked to mention your request. So if you indeed have special request on them, you’d better tell the waitress when making your order. Not to forget, I certainly had to add some toppings since for me, bubble tea without toppings would never be complete. This time, I gave a try on Honey Boba and Taro Pudding.

Shake, shake, then sluuurppp! A very fat sip from the fat cup using the fat straw (luckily I did not have to add by the fat me – Thanks to all the fat-burn exercises! haha). Wooww! I really loved the taste of this Black Magic Milk Tea. It immediately reminded me of my most favorite milk tea, which I very often had during my college time in Surabaya. I was really happy finding Fat Straw as now I could satisfy my craving toward that ‘College-time Milk Tea’ through Fat Straw’s Black Magic Milk Tea. The sweetness level was perfectly balanced. No wonder the waitress said that they indeed did not provide choices for sugar level as the sweetness level was already ideal. For toppings, I guessed the honey boba would taste even better if they cooked it for slightly longer time because I preferred it to be chewier. Whilst, I had to admit that their taro pudding was exceptional. It was so silky and the sweetness was just right. Absolutely a perfect companion for the perfect Black Magic Milk Tea!

If you were a bubble tea lover, giving Fat Bubble a try was surely right. I would definitely go back here to try their other flavors. I guessed my next one would be their signature menu, the Ice Milk Drink, which was basically fresh milk mixed with choices of toppings. Looking forward to coming up with the update :)

Say No to Mainstream at Typology

Yeay! I was so in the mood for weekend. Yeah, indeed who didn’t? Everyone must have been waiting for it even since the very first second of any Mondays :p. So what to have for this weekend? Absolutely something new! Just opened in July, Typology added 1 more line into the list of must-try coffee shops in South Jakarta area.

Still in line with the name, the design theme was also related to wordings. Not only the delicious menu served, the place itself was also an incredible mood and spirit booster for the guests, as there were so many inspiring sentences decorated every corner. I could not agree more if Typology claimed itself as a workspace and eatery. The venue was doubtlessly suitable for spending quite long time, either working or chilling, while letting your tummy be pampered.

Simplifica Snack Sampler (IDR 27k)

When I spotted this snack sampler mentioned on the menu, my heart was dancing. Who didn’t love deep-fried snacks? For a moment, I would put aside all those cholesterol thingy. This snack sampler was definitely a perfect choice for a light meal. The dish was rich and generous as the portion was huge and there were several variants of snacks served on the plate. They ranged from chicken fillet, cheese sticks, cakwe, dumplings, and french fries. Before looking at the real dish, I was thinking that this snack sampler would come in small portion as the price was affordable. However, it turned that the real one was really satisfying, especially because the taste was also great. All those golden-brown deep-fried snacks were crispy and not too greasy. The best one was the cakwe, which were completed with abundant fillings, instead of the plain ones. I actually do not know what the fillings were, but trust me, you just need to try it by yourself and prove that they are indeed exceptional!

Marlett’s Creamy Macaroni (IDR 35k)

For you who love creamy pasta, this one is surely a must-try! Given abundant melted mozzarella cheese, the doubtless creaminess was perfectly complemented with the super cheesy taste. The macaroni itself was cooked al dente. Besides, the toppings were so rich; combining smoked beef, sausages, and mushrooms. One kind reminder, please don’t underestimate the portion just by looking at the appearance. As this dish was so creamy, this tiny portion would surely be fulfilling.

Flagship Rainbow Rice (IDR 45k)

Reading the dish name only surely has raised your curiosity, not to mention looking at the real presentation. You certainly would be very excited to try the taste of each colors served on this plate. As said by the name, this fried rice indeed consisted of 4 colors; black which was made of squid ink, green which was made of green chili, yellow which was made of turmeric, and red which was made of tomatoes. To give extra excitement for your taste bud, the beautiful combination of colors was accompanied by chicken satay, fried egg, and vegetables. Yeah, this might be the most distinctive, yet wonderfully presented fried rice you’ve ever seen in your entire life.

How about the taste? It was actually lovely despite the fact that it was quite oily. My most favorite was the black one as it was the tastiest for me. The fried egg was also yummy as it was well-seasoned, the chicken satay was luscious with its juicy and tender meat, and the veggies added fresh and healthy touch to the plate. Not to forget, the rainbow crackers, which I believed every Indonesian would surely require to be served together with fried rice. If I might add one suggestion to make this fried rice tasted even better, it would be to make the rice texture flabbier. Besides that, everything else served on this plate was highly satisfying.

Arial Tuna Pasta

Serving sautéed spaghetti with olive oil, garlic, chili, and tuna/chicken (based on your choice) on the plate, this one was basically Aglio Olio Spaghetti in Typology’s version. The pasta was cooked al dente and the mixture of ingredients well-pampered my taste bud. It was indeed a flawless balanced between savory and spicy flavor. Besides, I was impressed as the meat element was given in a generous portion, delivering very affluent taste to be enjoyed.

Ice Peach Tea (IDR 28k)

As you must have been very familiar with this beverage, I will not talk much about it. It was simply refreshing with the balanced sweet taste. Another great fact was you could find quite many slices of peach coming as the toppings of this tea.

Hot Green Tea latte (IDR 25k)

Though the latte art was not that good, my focus was drawn by the generous size of this beverage. Yes, it was served in a quite huge glass. With the price of IDR 25k, this one was surely worth-to-have. Moreover, it was not only giving affordable price, but also delivering satisfying taste. The green tea flavor was strong enough, and the sweetness level was just precise. At the end, who cares about the latte art when your taste bud has said yes?

Astor Smoothies (IDR 35k)

Still remember this one? One of our most favorite snacks back then in our childhood time, and might be for some of you, still your most favorite ones until now. But, I believe there were only very few of you, or might be none of you, have ever tasted smoothies made of this Astor. Then how’s the taste? This was definitely worth to try! For you Astor lovers, chocolate lovers, and sweet lovers, this was a call for you :p. Instead of just tasted like common chocolate smoothies (as what I expected before), you could really feel the Astor taste on your taste bud. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and more Astor sticks, this smoothies was surely a glass of sinful indulgence!

Beng-beng Smoothies (IDR 35k)

Besides Astor Smoothies, this Beng-beng Smoothies was another non-mainstream menu served in Typology. Frankly speaking, this was actually my main reason visiting Typology as I was very curious to taste it :p. Decorated with whipped cream and Beng-beng bars on top of the smoothies, the presentation was simple yet appealing. In a sip of this beverage, you could taste the wonderful combination of wafer, caramel, chocolate, and milk; exactly similar with what you found in a Beng-beng bar! To whoever inventing this smoothies, you certainly deserved a triumphant salute! Tons of thanks to you for making me enjoying my smoothies until the very last sip :)

Taste checked, place checked, price checked, then what else? One more thing that I absolutely would not forget was the friendly service delivered by the waiter. At the time I visited Typology, actually there was a meeting held there. At first I thought it was closed for public and then I decided to leave. However, the waiter gave a very fast response by immediately ran after me and told me that he would try to find a seat for me as the meeting would be ended real soon. Just in a second, he found a table for me and directly served me. I was highly satisfied with Typology’s service and I really appreciated it. Next visit would surely get a yes from me!
