Experiencing Dining in a Container at Tuttonero Coffee & Eat

If you just thought that the name of this brand new coffee shop sounded familiar on your ears, then there would be 2 possibilities; either you've known a restaurant in Surabaya named quite similar, or you're a Panerai watch lover and it reminded you of one of the series. Well, at least that's what happened to me.

Located at the all-day-long busy Jalan Panjang, honestly speaking it's not the most ideal location for me as I hated the traffic quite too much. Even at Saturday morning I got to get stuck for awhile, at the point where I was just several kilometers away from the spot. Great stuff, Tuttonero did provide gigantic parking space so you didn't have to worry about bringing your own car as long as you didn't mind coping up with the heavy jam along the way there.

The front view of the coffee shop was such a jaw breaker, looking at the huge size of the two-storey building. I then figured out that actually the second level was a hairdresser instead of fully occupied by the coffee shop, nonetheless it's still not a small one.

Besides the spacious venue, another stunning scenery you would directly spot once reaching the space was the container-shaped seating at the outdoor area located right in front of the venue. There were 4 of them, which were all about the same size, having the capability to accommodate 4 to 6 people in my guesstimate. Despite that you did have to sit on the floor, I think it's still a comfortable space and additionally it's such unique experience that you might not be able to get in other places.

Despite that it's located in front, you didn't have to worry about getting polluted by the vehicles passing-by as actually the containers were facing the indoor area instead of directly being exposed to the main road. Being quite distinctive, I guessed this spot would be another hype on most social media in the near following days.

Nevertheless, having this beloved capital city being hot and dry today, sitting outside wasn't the best option for me. I still preferred to enjoy the cool air-conditioned indoor area, whose design wasn't 'lost' compared to the outdoor one as the monochromatic design was stunning as well!

My biggest crush was on the bar table which was combined with the cake display and the order counter. It was amusingly decorated with frames, hanging light bulbs, and green plants, delivering both industrial and natural themes at the same time. The tables and chars were dominated by black color, perhaps to reflect the meaning behind its name, which in Italian meant 'all-black'.

Hot Cappuccino (IDR 34k)

Carrying 'coffee and eat' phrase as its 'last name', so it might be incomplete if we didn't have coffee at this initial trial. That reason successfully landed this hot cappuccino on the table, for which my friend and I opted for double shot of espresso. Yes, they did ask if we wanted to go for single or double and doubtlessly we chose the latter one, just to avoid the cappuccino being too light for our coffee preference. As my friend took his first sip, his face showed a massive change on its expression, looking kind of shocked with the taste. He didn't give a word and simply asked me to try it myself, which made me ended up exactly the same. Though we both loved bold coffee taste in our caffeine cup, this one was too acidic for our palate. Well, perhaps we should have gone for single shot or opting for extra flavor like hazelnut or caramel.

Hot Blue Tea (IDR 38k)

Looking on the drink list shown on the menu, it seemed like they did offer quite rich selections of tea and I didn't want to waste the chance to try one of them. I picked the one looking the most unique to me, which was this Blue Tea. The name did literally represent the appearance as the color was indeed blue. I wasn't really sure of the ingredients, yet overall it tasted like mix of herbs. As my taste bud was usually quite conservative for drinks, apparently this one wasn't something that I was really into. Nonetheless, if you're a tea lover or you're someone with huge curiosity, there's nothing wrong with giving it a try.

Cheese Baked Egg Toast (IDR 50k)

Hmm, the name might sound like Croque Monsieur, yet the actual look seemed like it's not. Coming to the trial session, it's indeed not. Pardon my frankness, but this was quite a rip-off for me, since said it bluntly it was a slice of toast with raw egg at the center, then topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Well, I thought at this level of price, I at least deserved a slice of smoked beef, pretty please. I left your imagination to elaborate more on the taste based on the components I'd mentioned just now. If I might have a say, I preferred the egg to be half-done sunny side up than a raw one, but I did admit that they're so generous for the cheese :)

Blachan and Prawn Pasta (IDR 89k)

This was my friend's pick and you might have guessed it right when you thought it would be a spicy one as it contained belacan or spicy fermented shrimp paste. Not only the sauce, the pasta did bring fresh prawns as its toppings. They're not those giant ones, yet the size and amount were quite satisfying. For those who're spicy-intolerant, you'd better not going for this as it's at the range of medium spiciness level. Both the aroma and the taste were at the same side, as they're tantalizing. Besides the angel hair which was slightly overcooked, overall it's a good choice to go for.

Yuzu Cremeux (IDR 50k)

Serving the desserts from EIO Patisserie, some of those neatly lined-up on the showcase had come on my dining table, just that the previous ones were right at the kitchen of EIO at PIK, the same location as Saine Daise restaurant. Finally I had my reunion with one of my most favorites from EIO, the Yuzu Cremeux. For you who're not familiar with Yuzu, it's basically Japanese signature orange whose taste was refreshingly sour. Pairing it with sweet crème and crunchy almond sable, this gorgeously plated dessert was absolutely the right choice for those who're not that much into sweets as the texture was light and the taste wasn't overly sugary. As smooth as silky pudding, you needn't worry of getting nauseated and instead, it would come as a perfect ending to your full-course.

Mini Fruit Tart (IDR 60k)

I was actually sold to the medium-sized version of this fruit tart, yet it was too big to be shared by two and thus we ended up ordering the mini version only. Topped with berries, the colorful presentation made it look more attractive compared to the others. Looking kind of similar to cheesecake, the taste was more into milk and I would even call it as the main ingredient, together with vanilla as the flavor was very bold. The texture of the main cake itself was pretty dense and there's the pie layer laying as the base, yet it was more into the soft-textured instead of the crumbling one. Nevertheless, I loved every single element of this cake. It's not something that went too fancy or complicated, yet it's such a comforting one, making me believe that it would be on my permanent order list for my upcoming visits to this place.

It was overall a nice dining experience and I did love the place quite much. It was a cozy one to sit all-day long for gathering or simply killing the seconds. Some of the dishes were also nice-to-have ones, particularly the desserts! I could already picture myself sitting there for afternoon tea or self-indulging session with sweetness overload.

The Brand New Bottega Ristorante

Despite that Bottega has had it's perfectly designed outlet at Mega Kuningan area, the management decided to close down that one and established a new one closer to the South. Most of you must have known Fairgrounds, so I guessed it would be easier to give you the guidance on the direction based on it, as Bottega's occupying a space at Fairgrounds, right next to Kinokawa, just after The Goods Cafe in case you're more familiar with it. When you just passed the front side, you might think it's much smaller compared to the prior outlet, yet that's actually not the case since this new outlet was more spacious.

Bottega crew mentioned that they initially planned to make this new outlet to be more casual one compared to the prior. Nonetheless, my friends and I agreed that the reality apparently talked differently as for us, this one looked fancier and more exclusive, reflected by the classic and elegant design using shiny marble tiles, chic hanging lamps, and some luxurious wooden furniture. The dim yellow lighting even strengthened the high-class atmosphere within the restaurant.

While the set up of the venue carried those themes, the guests were mostly dressed from casual to semi-formal, which was good stuff for me as I didn't imagine the restaurant would look like this so you could picture in your mind how casual I was.

Having a brand new place, the dishes offered were mostly similar, only adding some new ones into the existing long list. As my friends and I had all dined in Bottega before, so this time we opted for some of their new dishes and some of their recommended ones we hadn't had before.

Nonetheless, prior to going for the meal, let's present the trio mocktail we opted for as the starters. Behind the gorgeous presentation, there's price to pay. Not containing alcohols, I guessed they're pretty expensive especially the size were just like typical ones. I did admit they contained rich combination of ingredients in each glass though.

Ibiza (IDR 120k)

My friend didn't took a pill in Ibiza, but he went for the Ibiza itself. LOL, just in the mood of making jokes so pardon me for being cheesy. If I had to summarize this first drink, I'd call it mixed-fruit tea, blending orange, melon, and peach with black tea as the base. It's doubtlessly a refreshing glass with balanced taste as the natural sweetness from the fruits impeccably complemented the tea.

Apple Lychee Crush (IDR 120k)

Another mixed-fruit drink, yet this one was the sweeter version as it didn't have something plain like the tea in the previous drink. The collaboration carried out here was apple, orange, and lychee; for which the third element was quite dominating as you would find abundant nata de coco in your drink. So do expect tons of chews in between the sips.

Hawaiian (IDR 120k)

This was probably the 'highest valued' one since the size was the most petite being served in slim glass. The fruits blended were indeed different from the first two, marrying mango, pineapple, and coconut. Perhaps the reason why it had smaller portion was the texture which was slightly thicker as well. Nevertheless, putting the price aside, I did love the distinctive taste with sweet and sour served together in a single glass.

Porcini Coffee Rubbed Steak (IDR 295k)
300g US prime sirloin rubbed with Arabica coffee

WOW! Yes, that was exactly my immediate expression when the dish firstly landed on our table. Those glassy pink beef slices were surely so appealing and the aroma was 'annoyingly' seductive. I was expecting any additional sauce to come as the companion yet I then figured out there's none of it. Giving it a try, the appearance didn't lie as the beef was truly juicy and tender, literally melted in your mouth just in few chews. It was well-seasoned as well, that surprisingly no side sauce wasn't a problem. Some palate might want additional sea salt or pepper, yet for me it was okay going 'naked'. For my tummy size, I preferred having this 300 gram sirloin for share as I wanted to go for another dishes.

Penne alla Vodka (IDR 125k)

Going to Italian restaurant was certainly incomplete without having pasta and thus, we had two of them on the table. Both were served in creamy type of sauces, yet taste wise they're actually not a kind. Beginning with seafood as the protein, this was the penne cooked in vodka marinara sauce, topped with salmon chunks. It wasn't bad at all, but my taste bud also couldn't call out something to stand out from the dish. Perhaps it's about preference on the sauce, for which the Indonesian 'blood' of my palate demanded stronger kick from the spices.

Truffle Mushroom Ravioli (IDR 165k)

Sitting on a totally different polar from the first pasta, this wonton-alike-shaped pasta seemed to be everyone's new favorite, as we just had our premiere trial for it and immediately got hitched by the right creaminess and blend of flavors. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sweet corn paste in it, which bursted out as you bit it, was simply like finding hidden pleasure. The thick savory sauce richly mixed with mushrooms was such perfect balancer to the overall taste delivered from the plate. Top notch!

Bacon Mac and Cheese (IDR 116k)

We had no idea who to blame, as apparently the late lunch caused us to be hardly got full. Yes, simply said we're still feeling hungry. Not wanting to let the empty space in the tummy stayed empty, we decided to go for another pasta, our all-time favorite and perhaps I could even call it our top-of-mind from Bottega, Bacon Mac and Cheese! You might get surprised, but even for this simple pasta, Bottega had 3 versions; this one, the one with truffle, and another breakfast version served with eggs. Though it was more expensive than common mac and cheese the portion was satisfying and the generous cheese was heavenly pleasure. Enjoying it while warm was one of the best feeling of the day!

Freshly Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Pan with Rum and Raisin Ice Cream (IDR 88k)

Going home afterwards? Absolutely no way! There's still one part left, which was even the climax for my palate, D.E.S.S.E.R.T.S! I might say this wasn't a common one which you might find in all places, especially with this size. Standing next to the dessert was one of the heaviest temptation for me as I couldn't stand to hold myself from having my first spoon real real soon! It smelled too good to be true, being served in a hot pan, making the voluptuous vanilla and chocolate aroma spread freely and became a strong magnet for the saliva to drop. Enjoying it with the ingredient which had the opposite temperature, rum raisin ice cream, the combination became just like the meeting of positive and negative poles which flawlessly went together. The alcohol hint from the rum matched the sweet molten chocolate inside the cookie too well that I couldn't hold myself from stop munching!

All in all, big congratulations for Bottega for the grand opening of its brand new outlet! Regardless the concept intended to be carried out as formal or casual, keep serving gorgeously presented and wonderfully cooked dishes :)
